CoralHead! play the Porter
19 November 2004 Steve Wheedon, the booker at Moles & the Porter was in a fix - the band booked to play the Porter had cancelled with only 24 hours notice. After a frantic scrabble round to find a replacement things were not looking too hopeful and Steve was thinking about reaching for his list of DJs for short notice cancellations. However, this was not to be - the band in Moles Recording Studio were none other than the Coral, and Steve had been getting the odd track drifting up the stairs from the studio below his office...... The Coral are a really friendly bunch, despite their elevated status on the music scene, and are very approachable. Steve thought it was worth mentioning the fact that the band had cancelled for the Porter, and with almost no persuasion, two of the band, and another member of the mixing team agreed to do a stripped down acoustic set as a replacement - for a clue, have a look at the name of the trio! With a few phone calls to Bath record shops, and his pals out at Real World - ok there was a meniton on the Moles Forum, the place was packed to the rafters. It was the busiest anyone had ever seen the Porter Cellar bar! For more news on how the gig went, see the review which will appear on the reviews section shortly. A big thank-you to the guys from the Coral for saving our (veggie) bacon. Philip Andrews. |
