MolesSpace - MolesSpace - MolesSpace
![]() rupert murdoch 21 June 2006 Well, our site probably won’t ever be worth the $580million dollars reportedly paid for MySpace by the media mogul Rupert Murdoch (shown right), but then what would we do with all that money? Seriously though, the phenomenon of self-publishing via the web - which a lot of people have been doing for ages without realizing it is now a very potent force. Watch out all you old style publishers - you have been warned - the end is nigh. So typically, we are going to do something similar - but not quite the same - we’ll add our Moles twist to it. For a long time, we have in effect allowed bands to self-publish on our website pages devoted to the bands that play at Moles and the Porter. Soon, though you’ll be able to do it yourselves. What is envisaged is that once a band is on the site, and has had or is about to have a gig at either of these venues, the bands will be able to access pages that they can edit and update as they wish. The pages thus created will have something along the lines of the following. Multiple photos of the band; multiple sound tracks; biography on the band; individual band member profiles plus photos; gig lists or tour schedules; lyrics sheets or details of releases; a standard blog; I can’t think of much else we could put on there, but maybe you’ve got some more ideas. We’re getting fond of competitions here at Moles HQ, so here’s one for you - what should we call this new "webspace within a webspace" - needs to be short and snappy - desktop real estate is in short supply - and of course it can’t be called "MySpace". The prize - a pair of tickets to Moles any day of the week. Send replies to kath@moles.co.uk |
