2am Fringe license granted.
![]() 03 March 2004 Another morning in court today saw the yearly Fringe Cabaret firmly set up for the 6th year running. The Fringe Cabaret at the Porter Cellar Bar has become something of a tradition as an essential part of the fringe callendar as much as other long running events are. Getting the license granted at the local court though, is always a bit of a nail biting job, as you never know which way the magistrates are going to look at the application. However we are now in our 5th year of running the Fringe Cabaret until 2am every night of the week including Sundays, and long may it continue. We have put together a full program of "fringe cabaret" for you, to cover every one of the 17 nights of the fringe which is at the end of May and beginning of June this year. With bands, poets, jugglers, magicians, singers, mime artistes, comedians and much more, it promises to be much fun. Once the traditional "theatre style" fringe performances have finished for the evening, people are looking for something else to complete their night's entertainment - and we are providing it. We will be keeping the entry fee to a modest £2-3 so as not to break your wallet. We are even considering doing a "fringe season ticket" details to be announced later. In an expansion of our role in the fringe, we are putting on a singing workshop in the Porter Cellar Bar on the first two Sundays, and we are looking at doing a percussion workshop on the other 2 & possibly 3 Saturdays during the fringe period. Locally based jazz singer Joan Davis will be leading the singing workshop (which will feature live backing musicians), but we haven't yet confirmed the percussion workshop - more details to follow. We also managed to get our, special license to stay open on Festival Opening Night until 2am also - something of a coup when we were first granted it 3 years ago. We will be booking a marquee as usual, and will be putting on 3 bands outside the Porter, from 7pm - 11pm on the opening night of the festival. We are also on the look out for a steel band and a samba band - so get in touch if you have contact details. |
