Opening night of the Bath Music Festival
08 March 2004 Yes it's festival time again, and this year, as we have done during many recent festivals, we will be erecting a small marquee outside the Porter, and taking the opportunity to play some music al fresco. We're going to expand the concept this year a little. We'll be having the music starting at 7pm, and going on 'til 11pm. There'll be three bands on - so far Circle line have been provisionally booked, and we're looking for 2 more jazzy, souly or funky bands. In between sets we need two unampified groups of musicians who can walk on and play with no set-up, and no sound-check. So, we're looking for a samba band, a steel band or an african drumming ensemble - that's partly so we can do the changeovers without a break in the music - as they won't need any amplification - but also to vary and intremingle the musical styles. If the weather smiles on us, it should be a great night. On previous years when the weather has been good, with so many people wandering around, there has been a fantastic crowd to watch the bands. Keep your fingers crossed that weather is fine. Any bands who fancy helping to open the Bath International Music Festival - don't be shy, give Michelle an e-mail (put "Festival Opening Night" in the subject line), or call the office on 01225 404445 and ask for Michelle.
