Good Times Good Times

Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share. When My woman left home for a brown-eyed man, well I still don't seem to care...yeah its true you get some great art from the 'bad times' but the younger Jonny Cash-lookalike tonight says to tell with declaring the bad times. Safe them for subject matter and only declare the good ones. So Good Times Good Times is the name given to this singer/songwriter and his invisible band. Actually its rather an invisible audience this evening as well but the man in black plays a full hour long set of country/americana style acoustic songs without breaks. This is the point where most reviewers say (including myself) "Dylan or Ryan Adams springs to mind". Springs to mind maybe but neither was in the room so who cares!! Mr. Good Times was very relaxed as you might expect and so were the audience. I sat and enjoyed his set with a pint of Guiness and a beautiful woman next to me and felt like I was somewhere in California in the late sixties! . "Hows it going kids?" he asked us before playing four songs. I started writing my usual notes but ended up just writing down different lyrics that sprung out. "When the devil starts dreaming the devil gets ugly", "keep me in your pocket and tie me in a knot". He then drew us further into that ole country thang that he had going on. Tales of youth, love and music..."all you kids who go rushing to the dancehall to hear your favourite records, you've got it made". We all started clapping along to the rhythm of "I was born to let you know I love you". I was beginning to phase into my little time zone, or maybe we all just understood where he was coming from. "California dreamin was something to believe in" he sang..."these dreams are empty pockets and I'm wired to the sky" As the hour appraoched he sang a new song 'The Hours' and it seemed fitting. As did the eveing and the small crowd who appreciated it. You can't argue with a good time.
