Clara Kousah
![]() Clara 22 October 2008 Clara Kousah is a bird in flight. Her voice glides effortlessly through the musical scale with a graceful tone to match, yet always giving us the hint that this is a bird who can't be caged and will belt out a cry for freedom whenever she chooses. Clara is a singer/songwriter from Cambridge who released her debut album Dark To Light on August 18th through an indie label. She is joined on stage tonight by Dave who provides percussion in the way of bongos and shakers! She sings about love lost and love gained. Sometimes she sings from anothers perspective. It takes time but I know I can make it if youre waiting. Twenty-five till life, she sings in a song about someone in prison with only one face to carry them through. She sings about her old life in London in the song Underground. I drink myself dry and smoke too many cigarettes, she sings. City life rewound. Clara is talkative throughout her set. Despite playing to a small crowd, she introduces each song and holds the audience she does have captivated until the end of her set. She includes an unrequited love song she wrote when she was seventeen or eighteen. The lyrics convey the safety of youth. Everything is sweeter on the inside, you can't see through all my wonders. Love in disguise. As in the song about Garfield. Got one orange cat on my mind. My favourite song was influenced by the author Neil Gaiman. Clara had taken the death, destruction, desire and notably delirium prevalent in Neils books and created her own world in song. The grace in her voice was especially highlighted in this number. I enjoyed Claras set and despite the small audience she certainly charmed and won another couple of fans tonight.
